Chapter 4

The next morning is Saturday sleep-in. Luke wakes with his lovely wife cuddled to his chest. She’s twirling his chest hair. He kisses the top of her head. “Hey, baby.”

She peers up smiling but says nothing.

Luke is thinking of his day while stroking Annabelle’s hair. He has to mow the lawn and do a rubbish run to get rid of tree clippings from last weekend. He’s thinking of picking up a few beers for the afternoon.

“Hey, Luke…?”

“Yeah, baby.” He kisses the top of Annabelle’s head again.

She’s still twirling his chest hair and doesn’t look up this time. “You said something last night.”

“Oh yeah? Something good or bad?”

“Um. It depends. It was just something about what happened.”

Luke’s chest tightens. There was not the slightest doubt Annabelle was referring to the truck stop as the thing that happened.

She peers up from his chest, lifting to an elbow to prop herself there. “It was only in passing, but you said it was hard not to be distracted by what happened at the truck stop – like for all this time since then. Is that true?”

Luke nods and strokes hair from her forehead. “I try not to think about it or just put it out of my mind, but it’s really hard.”

Annabelle’s eyes lower for a few seconds then return to his. “Why?”

“I don’t know – because it was so fucking intense and exciting.”

“Really? Even after you had time to think about it? You’re not regretting it at all – or angry with me deep down?”

“I’m not angry, baby. I can’t say that I don’t regret it a little bit, but it’s like that gets outweighed by how sexy you were and how fucking hot it was seeing you like that.”

Annabelle nods and drops her eyes again for a minute. She’s frowning a little when she looks back up. “But you do regret it at some level?”

“Yeah, we let some other guy look at your tits. We showed them to him!”

Annabelle blushes. “We didn’t know he was gonna pull up beside us and stand there looking. That wasn’t the way I imagined it happening.”

“Oh?” Luke grins. “Well, exactly how did you imagine it happening, baby? Do tell.”

Annabelle smiles through the sweetness of her blush. “I just mean I thought it would be some of the truckers getting a peep as they walked past or something. Not like that guy being like that and actually standing there staring. Then even saying hello and asking you what he did.”

“Yeah, that’s for sure. A couple of old truckers or that guy at the bench would have been better. Just unlucky that guy showed up when he did.”

“Hmm.” Annabelle looks down again, nodding slowly. She then does a little shrug. “Except I’m glad it was that guy instead of the older one. I liked how tall and kind of strong looking he was.” Annabelle peers up with her blush rising again. “And that he got to have a proper look at me like that.”

Luke shifts onto his side and moves lower to be beside his wife.
